How to move your WordPress site from one domain to another in just two easy steps!

In my previous post I mentioned that I’ve moved previous version of this website to a sub-domain. There are a few solutions available to move your WordPress site from one domain to another however I am going to share the fastest and easiest way to do the same.

This solution applies only if you are moving the WordPress install from one domain (directory) to another domain or sub-domain (directory) on the same server.

I’ll refer the existing install as Site 1 and the new install as Site2 below.

Things to check before we start!

  1. To be safe, Make sure you take the backup of the database and all files on your server (including WordPress core files and .htaccess file).
  2. Make sure both domains and database are on same server.
  3. Make sure the new domain or sub-domain is ready to use.

Let’s start with the setup! continue reading »

Welcome to a brand new look of MohitAneja.com!

Welcome to a brand new start for MohitAneja.com, Finally I was able to spare some free time from my busy schedule to update my personal blog design. You can find the previous version at http://v1.mohitaneja.com. I am a keeper and never let go of things I love, that’s why I’ve kept the previous blog and design Alive on a sub-domain so I can visit anytime to cherish the memories.

I was wondering what to write in my first blog post and thought to interview myself ;)

Who Am I?

Born in Delhi and having spent my childhood in a small town of Punjab (Fazilka, if you’ve ever heard of it), I have had my unique ways of standing out of the crowd. Be it my style, knowledge of art or love life, I have been the king of know-how’s among my friends. Designing is in my blood. My first “Hello World” application was created back in 1998 and the list grew to 50+ before I actually came out with my signature website mohitaneja.com.

Before I drifted this passion to professional stream, I served Dell International Services as a Senior Operations Analyst and was recognized for automating the internal reporting system for about 3 years. I fell in love with the code-design symphony and decided to make my mark in web development services. I’m committed to the internet community and love to share my knowledge and best practices. Off the job, I’m mostly enjoying a snack or shaking a leg to hip-hop, rock and country music. I’m a total foodie and my favorite food comes from Domino’s, KFC, Subway and McDonalds. I also love long drives and holidaying with my beloved wife Reet. My dream is go on a world tour with my Dad.

I’m turned off by dishonesty, idleness and passionless life.

How I got into freelancing?

I started playing with computers back in 1996 and still learning new designing tools and programming languages. I used to share my knowledge on answers.yahoo.com and became a top contributor in just 4 months. People were very happy with my precise answers and solutions with reference links. One fine day, Yahoo banned my account as one of the reference website I shared was later updated to a torrent sharing website. I couldn’t get my account activated as per Yahoo’s policy so I decided to create a personal blog (http://www.mohitaneja.com which is http://v1.mohitaneja.com now) to share best practices. Got a lot of appreciation for the unique design and bright colors and people started requesting me to design for them. It was an amazing experience to get some extra bucks by just doing what I love. I completed around 40 projects in the year 2008 and it was getting harder and harder for me to work on these projects with my job as Senior Operations Analyst at DELL International Services India. Finally I QUIT my job in December 2008 and started CSSJockey.com to live my passion everyday. Since then I am adding new ventures in my company’s portfolio and I hope the list keeps growing..

Right now, I am in a process to start Web Development School here in Try-City Chandigarh where I’ll be sharing everything I’ve learned so far.. You can visit GrassAcademy.com to check what all courses will be available once we start. Right now I plan to start the courses in Tri-City Chandigarh, however, I’ll be starting Live & Virtual Classes Online very soon, so stay tuned.

How did I learn all this Stuff?

I am proud to say that I am a self made man and learned everything by myself with a lot of help from Google. I’ve never been to any design/development school as their teachings are limited to their age old curriculum (in India atleast), however, there’s no end to learning. I love to share knowledge and best practices which gives me a chance to learn new stuff everyday.

What do I want to achieve in life?

Come on, who knows what comes next, So I live in the present and my daily goal is to sleep with peace in my mind. Let me explain this with a small exercise which I love to share.

Take a deep breath & release it. Now, can you inhale the same air again? I bet Not! This is life! We die Every Moment, so Live every breath!

Alright, I guess Its enough for the first post.. If you have any other questions for me, please use the comments below.

Next, I’ll be sharing how I transferred the previous version of mohitaneja.com to v1.mohitaneja.com in just two steps.

See ya tomorrow!! Cheers!!
