Olympic Tower 2016 Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

This vertical structure will be placed in Cotonduba Island . It will be both a observation Tower , and a welcome sign for the visitors arriving by air and by Sea at Rio de Janeiro , where the Olympic Games 2016 will take place.

The project is from Zurique, and utilizes solar energy during the day with its solo Power panels, to pump the sea water as seen in the model. The movement of the water will be also utilized to turn the turbines And produce the power to work the system at night time.

Behind the Scenes

Design: MediaLabs.Co design was created by Giuseppe Zizza our Lead Designer who recently joined CSSJockey team and creating awesome designs for our personal and client projects.

Code: This website is coded in HTML5, CSS and jQuery and I’ve used the following plugins:
For the Welcome section of this website I’ve used jqFancyTransitions jQuery plugin created by Ivan Lazarevic and for Our Network section I’ve used jQuery Cycle Plugin. The scroll function is done with the jQuery code I shared in my earlier post, That’s it!

It was quite a productive day, Started working on my new venture’s (NetChillies) Branding which is coming along really nice.

MediaLabs.Co design was ready last week however I didn’t get a chance to code it due to work load. The whole week I was waiting for some free time so I could complete this website.

If you are following me on Twitter (CSSJockey or MohitAneja) or Facebook, you must have heard that I recently switched from PC to MAC. “FINALLY”

So far my experience is really good however I had to learn new shortcuts and get familiar with this awesome gadget.

Quick Tip!

If you recently switched from PC to Mac the first thing you will hate is the mouse speed. For me it was a major turn off, however being an explorer, I asked my best friend “Google” and I got the following code which you can write in the Terminal window to increase or decrease the mouse speed.

Here’s the code for the same:

To check the current settings type the following in terminal window

defaults read -g com.apple.mouse.scaling

To overwrite the default settings type the following command and replace “your_mouse_speed” with a numeric value. Higher the number, faster the speed!

defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling your_mouse_speed

I’ve set mine to 33 as I like my mouse to move around this big screen really fast. However you can set the number as per your comfort level.

Free Applications Resources for MAC

I’ve been using a lot of applications on windows to be more productive and organized so I starting hunting for MAC Applications to make myself at home.

I found a lot of websites where you can get applications for your MAC however the following are a few where you will find FREE software for you MAC and make it a power machine

An easy way to create an animated top button with jQuery!

In my previous post I mentioned that I’ll be sharing a nice tutorial about creating an animated top button for your web pages. To view a demo of the code you can scroll a bit down and click on the up arrow image on the bottom right of the page.

Now you know what its all about, so here’s the code

You would need to call jQuery script for this code to work, so add the following code within the HEAD tags of your web page.

Load jQuery

This will load jQuery library on to your page directly from google servers so you don’t have to save or include the file on your server.

jQuery Code

You can save this code in a separate .js file (without the tags ofcourse) and call the file within the HEAD tags or simply include the above code anywhere in your HTML code.

If you would like to use some different class name, change “scroll” with your desired name. To change the speed of the scroll you can update 1000 with any number you want.

1000 is equal to 1 second, so for example if you want the scroll to happen in 3 seconds, update 1000 with 3000.

In your html code you can specify the ID you want this link to scroll to. The HTML tag with the ID can be above or below the link. Make sure you specify the class name “scroll” (or whatever you have specified in jQuery) for this link to run the scroll function.

How to move your WordPress site from one domain to another in just two easy steps!

In my previous post I mentioned that I’ve moved previous version of this website to a sub-domain. There are a few solutions available to move your WordPress site from one domain to another however I am going to share the fastest and easiest way to do the same.

This solution applies only if you are moving the WordPress install from one domain (directory) to another domain or sub-domain (directory) on the same server.

I’ll refer the existing install as Site 1 and the new install as Site2 below.

Things to check before we start!

To be safe, Make sure you take the backup of the database and all files on your server (including WordPress core files and .htaccess file).
Make sure both domains and database are on same server.
Make sure the new domain or sub-domain is ready to use.

Let’s start with the setup!

Step 1: Updating the links so everything works perfect on new domain or directory.

General Settings

Update WordPress address (URL) and Site address (URL) with the new domain location.
For example, you will have http://www.Your-Website.com and you want to move the site to http://new.Your-Website.com, enter http://new.Your-Website.com in both fields.

Click Save Changes button and you will get a 404 page not found error.

Don’t panic, just hit the back button on your browser and you will have the same page in front of you. Do not close this window till the setup is complete.

Step 2: Copying all files from old directory to new directory.

Now we need to copy all the files from Site 1 directory to Site 2 directory. You can do this via FTP or cPanel File manager. I used cPanel as its way too faster than FTP download and upload. Make sure you copy all the files including .htaccess file to new directory to avoid any permalink issues.

Open another browser window and visit Site 2 (e.g. http://new.Your-Website.com). You should have the old site working on a new domain now. Login to Site 2 with your username and password and check the images under Media » Library. All images should be available with new permalinks.

Now you can remove the files on Site 1 and update third party configurations like feedburner.com, Google Sitemaps etc.
